The Governor of Nairobi is under a lot of backlash after making an announcement, Tuesday, that care packages filled with Hennessy cognac will be sent to the poor.
During the press conference, Mike Sonko said, “I think from the research conducted by the World Health Organization and various health organisations it has been revealed that alcohol plays a very major role in killing the coronavirus or any sort of virus.”
However, the backlash comes in due to the fact many health organizations have actually said alcohol can potentially be detrimental to the immune system.
Although the WHO does recommend using alcohol-based hand rubs to kill viruses, Hennessy is an 80 proof spirit and is not powerful enough to be applied in that manner. In addition to the cognac miniature bottles, the care packages include genuine hand sanitizer, maize, nappies, cleaning products and other household essentials.
