North Carolina has definitely been winning this year, when it comes to hip hop! So it’s no surprise, the state’s artists are aiming to bring home some wins, during the upcoming Grammy’s.
So who are we routing for?
Well of course, J. Cole walked away with nominations. The Fayetteville native, who now resides in Raleigh, was nominated for his song “Middle Child” in the Best Rap Song Category. He also was nominated as a feature on Dreamville’s song “Down Bad” with J.I.D., Bas, EARTHGANG and Young Nudy. In addition, Cole was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance Category for a feature with Travis Scott on “The London” by Young Thug.
As well as for Best Rap Song for “A Lot” with Dacoury Natche, 21 Savage and Anthony White. In the Best Rap Album Category, Cole’s Dreamville label was also nominated for “Revenge of the Dreamers III,” a compilation of songs from artists on his roster.
Now, it’s no secret Da Baby has been doing his thing in the music realm. Well, his hard work earned him a nomination for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, thanks to his hit record “Suge”.
YBN Cordae also pulled one through for the state, although a lot of people don’t know he was bien in Raleigh. He’ll be aiming to take home two of rap music’s biggest awards: Best Rap Song for “Bad Idea,” featuring Chance the Rapper, and Best Rap Album for The Lost Boy, his debut album which dropped in July.
