Costume designer, Shiona Turini, has worked with some our favorite celebrities like Future, Issa Rae, and even Beyonce. However, she’s recently took on styling another “fashion icon” that she’s admired since her childhood!
In honor of Black History Month, Shiona teamed you with Barbie to create a four-part campaign showcasing several Barbies dripped in melanin, including a doll in a wheel chair, plus-size dolls, bald heads, dolls with natural hair, braids, curves, wigs and more!
The collection also features 20 different looks all inspired by Shiona’s personal style. She also says the campaign is rooted in the idea of “community and sisterhood” which is why many of her photoshoots are group-oriented and collaborative.
Since the release Turini said, “I can’t wait to show my cousins, who I spent so many years playing Barbies with, what I’ve been working on.”
