On Sunday, Pete Buttigieg confirmed that he is officially bringing an end to his presidential campaign.
The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana left his supporters shocked when the announcement was abruptly made after a source from his campaign gave a confirmation to Fox News. The media outlet was also notified that instead of heading to Dallas for a rally he was supposed to headline Sunday night, Pete Buttigieg’s plane was rerouted to South Bend where he arranged to break the news himself.
The announcement of his campaign exit comes just a month after declaring victory in the contested Iowa caucuses. Not to mention, just days before Super Tuesday where 14 states will be heading to place their votes at polls.
The campaign also announced on Sunday that there’s still a need of $1.6 million in order to reach the necessary target for Super Tuesday. However, according to Fox News, a senior campaign aide proclaimed the decision was “absolutely not” because of Buttigieg’s fundraising failure.
While speaking to NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” just hours before pulling out, Pete Buttigieg voiced that “we’ll be assessing at every turn not only what the right answer is for the campaign, but making sure that every step we take is in the best interest of the party and that goal of making sure we defeat Donald Trump — because our country can’t take four more years of this.”
