Residents of Raleigh, NC spent their Sunday morning putting in work to send a huge message! Similar to the painting in DC, protesters came together and painted yellow words reading “end racism now” on a downtown street in front of the Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh.
Officials gave the group permission to shut West Martin Street down for the painting demonstration. However, activist and local business owner Charman Driver said demonstrators originally wanted to paint their message pointing toward the confederate statue by the state’s capital, but were unable to get permission by the Mayor of Raleigh.
Driver says the message they want to give is that the confederate monuments need to come down while simultaneously providing support to those fighting to end racism.
